Efficient Approximation Algorithms for Point-set Diameter in Higher Dimensions
We study the problem of computing the diameter of a set of $n$ points in $d$-dimensional Euclidean space for a fixed dimension $d$, and propose a new $(1+varepsilon)$-approximation algorithm with $O(n+ 1/varepsilon^{d-1})$ time and $O(n)$ space, where $0 < varepsilonleqslant 1$. We also show that the proposed algorithm can be modified to a $(1+O(varepsilon))$-approximation algorithm with $O(n+...
متن کاملCompleteness, Compactness, Effective Dimensions
We investigate a directed metric on the space of infinite binary sequences defined by d(Y → X) = lim sup n C(X n | Y n) n , where C(X n | Y n) is the Kolmogorov complexity of X n given Y n. In particular we focus on the topological aspects of the associated metric space proving that it is complete though very far from being compact. This is a continuation of earlier work by the author investiga...
متن کاملThe Thin Viscous Flow Equation in Higher Space Dimensions
We prove local integral (entropy) estimates for nonnegative solutions of the fourth order degenerate parabolic equation u t + div(u n ru) = 0 in space dimensions two and three. These estimates enable us to show that solutions have nite speed of propagation if n 2 (1 8 ; 2) and that the support cannot shrink if the growth exponent n is larger than 3=2. In addition, we prove decay estimates for s...
متن کاملOn Analytic Ornstein-uhlenbeck Semigroups in Infinite Dimensions
We extend to infinite dimensions an explicit formula of Chill, Fašangová, Metafune, and Pallara [2] for the optimal angle of analyticity of analytic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroups. The main ingredient is an abstract representation of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator in divergence form.
متن کاملShadowing in Higher Dimensions
This paper presents methods using algebraic topology for showing that pseudo-trajectories are close to trajectories of a dynamical system. Our emphasis is the case where the trajectories are unstable in two or more dimensions. We develop the algebraic topology for guaranteeing the existence of such trajectories.
